Millions of U.S. households struggle with food insecurity according to Feeding America. Dollar General is helping to address this critical issue with Feeding America and local foodbanks by leveraging our extensive supply chain and unique store footprint. Since beginning its partnership in 2021 through the end of 2024, we have provided more than $4 million and the equivalent of more than 37 million meals through in-kind donations to help neighbors in need.
At Dollar General, we also partner with local leaders and national organizations to help promote increased access and understanding of the importance and impact of healthier food in communities. In Baton Rouge, LA., we partnered with Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s Geaux Get Healthy program, a campaign to address food insecurity and advance nutrition. We worked with Mayor-President Broome to add fresh produce in select Baton Rouge stores. Additionally, we partnered with the American Heart Association and a local hospital system to support Simple Cooking With Heart classes. Read more about this innovative collaboration in Forbes.
Literacy changes lives, and since 1993, it’s been the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s mission to ensure our neighbors have access to meaningful education. With more than $254 million donated to fund literacy programs as of fall 2024, and partnerships with schools, nonprofits, libraries, and additional nonprofits, we’re working to provide communities with the tools needed to read and write their own stories. When disaster strikes, we're there to help our neighbors and communities. Our partnerships with the American Red Cross and local community organizations have provided millions of dollars in funding to help support the critical first responses and the long-term recoveries that help hometowns heal and provide hope for the future. Additionally, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation created the Beyond Words disaster relief fund in 2006 to help public school libraries rebuild, reestablish, and/or expand library resources following the devastating impact of natural disasters.
When disaster strikes, we're there to help our neighbors and our communities. By partnering with the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, and local community organizations, we support the critical first responses and the long-term recoveries that help hometowns heal and provide hope for the future.
Sustaining our communities happens from the ground up, and that’s why we’re committed to being good environmental stewards and creating sustainable change. From partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation on large-scale reforestation efforts to hosting local planting projects for our employees and their communities, we strive to maintain the vibrance of the places we call home.
